ERC requests amnesty for 37 ex-Government officials and former mayors convicted and investigated in the causes of 1-O
Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya (ERC) has announced that this Tuesday it will request the application of amnesty for 37 ex-Government officials and former mayors convicted and investigated in the causes of 1-O, as well as in the case of the Democratic Tsunami and that of Volhov, once the norm of the criminal oblivion of the process has already been published in the BOE, after being approved by the Congress of Deputies last Thursday. The briefs have been presented to the Supreme Court, the National Court, the 13th District Court of Barcelona, as well as in other courts with cases involving ex-mayors and ex-councillors for 1-O.
Jordi Turull requests the termination of criminal responsibility for 1-O
Criminal lawyer Jordi Pina, lawyer of the former councilor of Junts, Jordi Turull, also asked the Supreme Court this Tuesday to apply the termination of criminal responsibility for the 1-O, in which case he was convicted and pardoned the prison sentence, but maintains the disqualification at public expense for the crime of embezzlement.
Omnium Cultural requests amnesty for Oleguer Serra
For its part, Òmnium Cultural has also announced that it has already officially requested amnesty for its board member Oleguer Serra, investigated for terrorism in the Democratic Tsunami case and exiled to Switzerland since last November because of this investigation. The organization requests the judge of the National Court to close the case against Serra, and denounces the “political persecution” orchestrated against Òmnium and the independence movement as a whole.
Causes of 1-O and embezzlement
Most of the causes are related to the organization of the Self-Determination Referendum of Catalonia on October 1st. In this case, there is the former vice president Oriol Junqueras, and the former councilors Raül Romeva and Dolors Bassa, who despite the pardon of the conviction for sedition have in force the disqualification from public charge until 2030 and 2031 for the crime of embezzlement background. It is the same situation for the general secretary of Junts, Jordi Turull.
In the ERC list, your case must be reviewed by the Supreme Court. There are also former councilors with expired sentences, such as Carles Mundó and Meritxell Serret, and the president of the Parliament, Carme Forcadell.
Other cases and courts involved
The Volhov case, directed by the head of the 1st District Court of Barcelona, is one of the most difficult cases to fit into the amnesty. There are people like Jordi Sanglas, Xavier Vendrell, Marta Rovira and Ruben Wagensberg who are being investigated in this case and in other cases related to Democratic Tsunami.
In addition, there are ex-mayors and councilors for 1-O, and the bulk of the list is due to the Court of Accounts case, pending judgment, and with politicians and former officials in delegations abroad sued.
Because of the 1-O, the State Attorney General ordered to prosecute the 700 mayors in favor of the consultation and in the end there were half a hundred.
