Calaf approves key measures in a municipal plenary marked by collaboration

A plenary session full of important decisions

On Monday, March 24, the City Council of Calaf held a plenary session that addressed several fundamental issues for the municipality. At the first point of the agenda, a credit modification was approved for a total of € 5,624.07, which comes from the contingency fund. These funds will be used for the maintenance of the elevators and the acquisition of a new computer program to manage municipal finances.

Support for municipal workers

The session continued with a proposal to complement the remuneration of staff who are in a situation of temporary disability. With the abstention of Junts per Catalunya and the support of SUMEM, it was agreed to cover 100% of its remuneration, with retroactive effects since March 1, 2025.

Unanimous approves for the public interest

Three additional points on the agenda were approved unanimously. The first of them was the free transfer of the Primary Care Center to the Catalan Health Service, followed by a bonus of the IBI for the Casino de Calaf for the exercise of 2024. An extension was also requested for 2026 of the agreement with the Department of Social Rights and Inclusion for the provision of the Day Center Service.

Key appointments in local justice

Another of the highlights was the appointment of Pilar de Millan Soriano as the new Judge of Peace Owner of Calaf. Ana Maria Bellot and Ramon Biosca Giralt were proposed as substitutes. Although the appointment was unanimously approved, the second Deputy Mayor, Jordi Biosca i Pou, expressed a private vote against.

Commitments to mobility and transparency

The plenary also included the presentation of three motions. The first, which received unanimous support, required urgent measures to guarantee a quality commuter network of Catalonia, including the integral transfer of the network and the improvement of accessibility. The second motion, also approved, urged to integrate the Renfe commuter train service into the metropolitan transport authority tariff network to prevent additional costs for users.

Debate on granting subsidies

The third motion, presented by the opposition groups, sought to ensure that the City Council followed the competitive concurrence procedure in the granting of subsidies. However, it was rejected with the votes against Together for Calaf. The Councilor for Culture, Vicenç Sugrañes, defended the current practice, arguing that the direct concession through agreements is more efficient for a small municipality like Calaf. Sugrañes pledged to review the procedure for the future.

Looking to the future

With these decisions, the City Council of Calaf is positioned to face new challenges and improve the quality of life of its citizens. The collaboration between the different municipal groups, as well as the capacity to respond to the needs of the workers and the community, will be key to the development of the municipality in the coming years.
