Decision of the Constitutional Court on the ERO case and reactions from the Spanish press

The Constitutional Court exonerated those convicted in the ERO case

The Constitutional Court (TC) on Tuesday exonerated all the embezzlement for which the former Andalusian president José Antonio Griñán was convicted and part of the prevarication for which his predecessor Manuel Chaves was convicted in the “specific procedure” of financing of fraudulent employment regulation files (ERO) at the expense of regional funds. The majority of the Plenum partially appreciated his appeals and agreed to annul the convictions, considering that the rights to the presumption of innocence were violated and the crime of prevarication was incorrectly applied. Thus, he ordered the Court of Seville to issue two new sentences that conform to the law.

Reactions from the Spanish press

The decision of the Constitutional Court has generated various reactions in the Spanish press. The ABC headlines: “The TC liquidates the ERO scandal by exonerating Chaves and Griñán” and highlights that the decision was taken with the body’s progressive majority. The newspaper El Mundo, totally opposed to the decision, headlines: “7 magistrates appointed by the PSOE save 2 ex-presidents of the PSOE”. La Razón criticizes that “the left led by Pumpido annuls the convictions of Griñán and Chaves for violating the principle of legality”.

Kylian Mbappé signing for Real Madrid

Apart from the decision of the Constitutional Court, another issue highlighted in the headlines is the signing of Kylian Mbappé by Real Madrid. The French player was presented at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium and generated great anticipation among the fans.
