A strong answer
The president of the Spanish government, Pedro Sánchez, sent a second letter to the public denouncing an alleged intention to exert influence in the upcoming European elections on 9-J. This complaint arose following the court summons of his spouse as being investigated for alleged influence peddling and corruption in the private sector. In response, ERC’s candidate for the European elections, Diana Riba, has published a letter on her social networks, expressing her empathy and the understanding of Catalans in the face of a justice that she considers anchored in the past.
Riba highlighted his own experience with justice and recalled that this is the first campaign he can carry out with relative normalcy. In addition, he referred to the time that his partner, Raül Romeva, spent in prison and pointed out that part of this period was under the PSOE government. This has generated a clear message of disagreement with the actions of the socialists.
Fight against the ‘lawfare’
Diana Riba has expressed her desire that Pedro Sánchez does not have to go through the same difficulties as his family and has urged him to start fighting against the persecutors, referring to a non-law proposal presented by ERC to recognize the ‘ lawfare’, which was rejected by the PSOE, PP and Vox in Congress the previous week. This rejection has led the republican candidate to question the sincerity of the socialists’ words and to call for citizen participation in the upcoming European elections.
Message to voters
Diana Riba’s letter to Pedro Sánchez concluded with a message to voters, reaffirming ERC’s commitment to the regeneration of democratic life and the defense of fair play. In addition, he has called for public participation in the elections to fight against ‘lawfare’, ‘fake news’ and the alleged influence of the 1978 regime. This call for participation has been accompanied by a reminder of the commitment to allow Catalan citizens to freely self-determine.
