Extraordinary Congress of the Valencian Socialists

Diana Morant will be Ximo Puig’s successor

The Valencian Socialists will hold an extraordinary congress this weekend to ratify that Diana Morant will be Ximo Puig’s successor at the head of the PSPV. The events will be held in Benicàssim, with the motto ‘Here we are’. They will start this Friday afternoon and continue during Saturday and Sunday. The participation of Pedro Sánchez is expected, as well as other prominent members of the Spanish government and the Ferraz headquarters, such as the first vice-president of the executive and Minister of Finance, María Jesús Montero, or the spokesperson and Minister of Education , Pilar Alegría. This is the third extraordinary congress of the PSPV in its 46-year history. Morant will be the first woman to lead the party, and the seventh leader to direct the formation (Joan Pastor, Joan Lerma, Joan Romero, Joan Ignasi Pla, Jorge Alarte and Ximo Puig).

Ratification of Diana Morant as leader of the Valencian Socialists

The extraordinary congress has the function of ratifying Diana Morant as leader of the Valencian Socialists, because she was already formally proclaimed last February 7, as she was the only member of the party who came forward to replace Ximo Puig. Who will be ratified this weekend as the new general secretary of the party is the current Minister of Science, Innovation and Universities, former mayor of Gandia, 43 years old and telecommunications engineer. She was proclaimed the new leader of the party after Carlos Fernández Bielsa and Alejandro Soler withdrew their respective candidacies and joined Morant’s. And it will be a congress that will put an end to a process that began in December, when Ximo Puig announced that his party needed “new team leadership and strategies”, with the aim of building an “alternative powerful” in the current Valencian government, presided over by the popular Carlos Mazón, in coalition with Vox.

The support of Pedro Sánchez and other prominent members

Among them are María Jesús Montero, first vice-president of the executive and Minister of Finance, and Pilar Alegría, spokesperson and Minister of Education.
