Imanol Arias’ pact with the Prosecutor’s Office
The renowned actor Imanol Arias has reached an agreement with the Prosecutor’s Office just before the start of the trial against him for tax fraud. This trial, which began this Tuesday in the National Court, implied up to 27 years in prison for Arias for 6 tax crimes related to the Nummaria case. It should be noted that Ana Duato, who plays Arias’ wife in the well-known fiction series ‘Tell me how it happened’, is also involved in this case, although she has decided not to agree with the Prosecutor’s Office.
The attempted defense pact of Arias
Imanol Arias’ defense has been seeking an agreement with the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office for some time. This pact would imply that the actor would not be sentenced to more than two years in prison, in exchange for admitting the tax crimes of which he is accused. However, the details of this agreement have not yet been revealed.
Ana Duato’s position
On the other hand, Ana Duato has chosen a radically different position. The actress does not wish to admit any fault and she maintains that there are major errors in her accusation. In an interview before the trial, Ella Duato stated: ‘I am convinced of my innocence. Reaching an agreement would imply that I lie and assume acts that I have not committed.’
El caso Numaria
The Nummaria case is the name given to the judicial process in which Imanol Arias, Ana Duato and thirty other people are involved, accused of alleged crimes against the Public Treasury. This case has been named after the Nummaria law firm, which is believed to have been at the center of the plot. According to investigators, this office, directed by Fernando Peña, was in charge of creating fictitious companies to carry out the fraud. Fernando Peña, for his part, faces a sentence of 298 years in prison.
The amounts defrauded
According to the accusation of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, Imanol Arias would have defrauded 2.7 million euros in personal income tax between 2009 and 2015, of which he had already returned 2.3 million in 2020. For her part, Ana Duato would have defrauded 1.9 million euros between 2010 and 2017, of which he had returned 838,000 euros in the same year. In addition, other figures related to the series ‘Tell me how it happened’, such as producer Miguel Ángel Bernardeu, are also affected by this case.
La estructura del despacho Nummaria
Judge Moreno has concluded that the Nummaria firm created a corporate structure with the sole purpose of avoiding paying taxes and hiding the assets accumulated from the benefits obtained by its professional activity.
