Investigation on the Koldo case: The PP will cite Francina Armengol and Ángel Víctor Torres

The PP summons Francina Armengol and Ángel Víctor Torres

The Popular Party has confirmed that it will summon Francina Armengol to the Senate investigation commission for the Koldo case, as well as summon the Minister of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, Ángel Víctor Torres, to give explanations about an alleged corruption plot. This decision comes after Koldo García assured in an interview with ‘El Mundo’ that he offered the Torres team a company to buy masks during the coronavirus pandemic. The PP points out that Koldo was the “interlocutor” to “introduce the corrupt plot to the government of the Canary Islands”.

Institutional conflict and cross threats

Ángel Víctor Torres, Minister of Territorial Policy, recently announced an institutional conflict with the autonomies chaired in coalition by PP and Vox that have approved or are processing rules contrary to the state law of democratic memory. This has generated tension, with the PP seeking clarification on the alleged plot of corruption and cross-party threats to have its leaders testify in the Senate and Congress investigation commissions for the Koldo case. The PP does not rule out asking Pedro Sánchez to testify in the Senate committee, while the PSOE opens the door to take Alberto Núñez Feijóo to Congress with the same objective (https://www.softcatala.org/resum-de-textos-en -Catalan/).

Differences between the investigative commissions of Congress and the Senate

The Senate investigation commission will focus on cases involving the PSOE, since the PP has an absolute majority and can impose the desired list of witnesses. The PP hopes to turn the Koldo case into a major scandal of this legislature to wear down the socialists. While the PSOE intends to turn the Koldo case into another chapter of a commission that aims to end up shooting Isabel Díaz Ayuso. This reflects political tensions and the struggle to control the narrative on this issue.
