Low Participation in the Municipal Elections of Manlleu

Historic Low Level of Participation

The recent municipal elections in Manlleu have recorded a low turnout, with only 49.04% of citizens exercising their right to vote. This figure represents a significant decrease with respect to the previous elections and constitutes the lowest record in the democratic history of the municipality. It had never before fallen below the 50% participation threshold in a municipal election, with the lowest record so far this year at 53.4% in 2015.

Political and Citizen Reflection

The results have attracted the attention of politicians and citizens, generating a call for reflection both in the political sphere and in the citizen. This low participation has raised the need to understand the reasons for this phenomenon, highlighting the importance of democratic participation and its relationship with local political life.

Down trend

The preliminary records already pointed to this decline, confirmed with the closing of the electoral colleges. In the previous elections in 2019, participation was 65%, highlighting a downward trend in the involvement of citizens in these democratic events.
