Manifesto of support for the CUP ahead of the parliamentary elections

Wide support for the CUP

A group of more than 150 personalities from the world of culture, the media and politics have signed a manifesto of support for the Popular Unity Candidacy (CUP) for the upcoming parliamentary elections. This manifesto calls for a change of course in current politics and expresses concern about the privatization of resources and public services. It also calls for protecting public health and education, as well as promoting the energy transition and food sovereignty. In addition, the manifesto denounces the rise of fascism and defends the idea that another country is possible.

Outstanding personalities

Among the personalities who have signed the manifesto, stand out names such as the actor Enric Auquer, the singer-songwriter Cesk Freixas, the group Ginestà (Júlia and Pau Serrasolsas), the comedians Maria Rovira (Oye Sherman) and Ana Polo, and the musician Xavi Sarrià . There are also representatives of the world of culture such as the vocalist of Txarango, Alguer Miquel, the composer Borja Penalba, the journalist Alba Riera, the director Marc Lesan, the comedian Marc Sarrats, the actress Natàlia Barrientos, the designer Queralt Guinart (Kerraturre ) and the poet Martí Sales, among others.

Political support

In the manifesto there are also outstanding figures from the world of politics, such as former Cuparian deputies David Fernàndez, Anna Gabriel and Antonio Baños, as well as the lawyer Benet Salellas. Other important names include former MPs and activists Gabriela Serra and Marcel Vivet, and former Cuparian MP Julià de Jodar. These personalities had already shown their support for the candidacy of Carles Puigdemont in another manifesto, but they have finally chosen to support the CUP in these elections.

Support from well-known personalities

In these elections, parties have sought the support of well-known personalities to attract votes and sympathies. The socialist candidate Salvador Illa has had the support of figures such as Joan Manuel Serrat, Isabel Coixet, Jorge Javier Vázquez, Josep Maria Pou, Núria Espert, Gervasio Defeer and Javier Mariscal. For ERC, personalities such as Tomàs Molina and Andreu Mas-Colell have been involved. As for Junts+, the figure of Carles Puigdemont has received the support of Carles Porta, Lloll Bertran, Lluís Marco, Ada Perellada, Albert Sánchez Piñol, Pilarín Bayés, Joan Gaspart, Valtònyc and former presidents Artur Mas and Jordi Pujol.

Criticism from the other side of the political spectrum

From the other side of the political spectrum, there has been criticism of Salvador Illa for his supposed relationship with separatism and for not being considered constitutionalist enough. In this sense, figures linked to the PP and Vox, such as Congress speaker Cayetana Álvarez de Toledo, Rosa Díez, Alejo Vidal-Quadras and Albert Boadella, have asked not to vote for Illa. There are also people who were previously linked to the PSOE, such as Nicolás Redondo Terreros or Felipe González’s former minister José Luis Corcuera, who have signed the manifesto against Illa. Even the actor Antonio Resines has joined this criticism.
