Concentration before the Parliament of the Canary Islands
The Official College of Physiotherapists of the Canary Islands (COFC), together with the unions CCOO, UGT, Intersindical and Satse, along with other health groups, meet this Tuesday afternoon in front of the Parliament of the Canary Islands to express their disagreement with the so-called ‘ sports recipe’ promoted by the Government of the Canary Islands.
This group considers it essential to alert the population about the risks involved in implementing this measure without the participation of physiotherapy professionals. In addition, they will also hold a rally at the headquarters of the Ministry of Health of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
The ‘sports recipe’ and the reaction of the health sector
In January, the CC-PP Government announced the creation of the ‘sports recipe’ after an agreement between the ministries of Health and Education. This system will allow Primary Care doctors not only to recommend exercise, as was done until now, but also to prescribe it in a personalized way.
However, this measure has generated criticism from the health sector. The Association for the Defense of Public Health of the Canary Islands (ADSPC) described the project as ‘delusional’, since it will allocate public funds to the private sector instead of strengthening public competition in the field of therapeutic exercise by the Canary Islands Service. Health.
For its part, the College of Physiotherapists of the Canary Islands, supported by the Council of Colleges of Spain, considers that this initiative represents ‘the largest attack of professional intrusion’ that this health group has faced.
