New financial support for inclusion
The Diputació de Barcelona has recently launched a financing plan with a total of 1.5 million euros, designed specifically for municipalities with more than 2,500 inhabitants and county councils. This pilot program, which is part of the Local Government Network Cooperation Plan 2024-2027, seeks to address and combat the age that affects people from 55 to 75 years.
Clear goals for social change
The funds will be destined to develop local strategies and protocols that will allow to make visible and combat age discrimination. In addition, awareness and training campaigns for professionals is expected to be carried out, with the aim of fostering a greater understanding of the realities that the elderly live.
Foment of Social Capital
Financial support also focuses on strengthening community bonds and intergenerational relationships, as well as promoting the social capital of this sector of the population, often forgotten.
Beneficiaries and distribution mechanism
A total of 178 municipalities will be beneficiaries of this program. The distribution of the funds will follow a direct concession model based on population sections, with a maximum contribution of 40,000 euros per municipality and a minimum of 1,500 euros.
A period of execution for innovation
The grants will be activated from April 15, 2025 and will end on June 30, 2026. This period is expected to allow the implementation of innovative proposals in the field of public policies.
Awareness of age
The project ‘Various generations: towards equality of opportunity’, promoted by the area of social sustainability, seeks to deal with ageism, a discrimination that often goes unnoticed and which deeply affects the quality of life of the elderly.
A necessary debate
In order to foster the debate on this topic, the cycle ‘Conversation on age’ has been organized, which includes experts such as Vania de la Fuente and Elisabeth Justice, and will continue with Manel Domínguez on May 13, author of the book ‘Senior, the life that does not cease’.
A congress for awareness
In addition, the Diputación has scheduled the 1st Congress on Age for October 14 and 15, 2025. The purpose of this event is to raise awareness among policy and professional responsibilities about the various forms of age, promoting a more positive and inclusive view of aging.
A space of knowledge and collaboration
The Congress will seek to generate knowledge of the manifestations of age and promote the exchange of experiences between social agents, as well as formulating joint strategies to combat this discrimination that affects a vital sector of society.
