A new day of claims
Prison workers have started a new day of demands, with the aim of asking for changes and responsibility. This action, known as Primavera Blava, began with a group of officials blocking the entrance to the Quatre Camins prison, in La Roca del Vallès, with the intention of expressing their discontent and demanding changes in the management of the department of justice
Reasons for the protests
The prison workers’ protests stem from the murder of a kitchen worker at Mas d’Enric prison, in Tarragona, two weeks ago. This tragic event has generated a great mobilization of officials, who demand changes in the management model of the Department of Justice to guarantee security and order in penitentiary centers.
Reversal of the Justice model
The prison workers seek to reverse the model of the Department of Justice, which they consider does not allow to guarantee order in the penitentiary centers. In addition, they report that more than twenty officials have been assaulted in the prisons of Catalonia since the murder in Mas d’Enric, and they say that the current system generates tension and aggression without adequately punishing inmates who break the rules.
Requirements and objectives
Prison workers are demanding the resignation of councilor Gemma Ubasart and the secretary of Penal Measures, Amand Calderó, as well as the directors of Mas d’Enric and Quatre Camins. In addition, they demand changes in management to guarantee the safety of officials and inmates, and they demand responsibility from the authorities for the incidents that have occurred in the penitentiary centers.
