Two environmental groups confront each other over support for Carles Puigdemont

In the midst of the controversy, two environmental parties with similar names and logos, Alternativa Verda (Moviment Ecologista de Catalunya) and Els Verds-Alternativa Verda, have been involved in a confrontation due to the support given to the president in exile, Carles Puigdemont, in the elections. on May 12.

Green Alternative backs Puigdemont

Alternativa Verda (Moviment Ecologista de Catalunya) issued a statement confirming its support for President Puigdemont in the 12-M elections. The president of Alternativa Verda, Josep Boix, stated that they have been one of the signatory organizations of the Vernet agreement and denied the misinformation that appeared in the media.

The Greens-Alternativa Verda denies its connection

On the other hand, Els Verds-Alternativa Verda denied any relationship with the Vernet agreement. The co-founders of this group, Santiago Vilanova, Pilar Sentis and Xavier Garcia, assured that the person who signed the agreement on behalf of Alternativa Verda, Dolors Borau, is not part of their political organization nor does he have a resume as an environmental activist. In addition, they criticized the manipulation of the political leaders who promoted the agreement and the lack of ethics in using historical acronyms of environmental politics in Catalonia to claim the green vote.

Differences between formations

Alternativa Verda (Moviment Ecologista de Catalunya) claims that its party was founded in 1983, while Els Verds-Alternativa Verda was created in 2000. These differences in the path and names of the parties have contributed to confusion and conflict between both ecological parties.

Signatories of the Vernet agreement

The Vernet agreement, which supports the candidacy of Carles Puigdemont, has been signed by several political organizations, including Alternativa Verda, represented by Dolors Borau.
