Jordi Turull’s reaction
The general secretary of Junts, Jordi Turull, has expressed his regret at the fact that judge Joaquín Aguirre seems to seek revenge without any scruples or shame. According to Turull, the magistrate’s decision to open a separate piece for treason and embezzlement in the context of the Volhov case is considered a non-existent cause and an ‘invented fantasy’. In addition, he added that this decision seems to indicate that ‘anything goes to persecute pro-independence’.
The decision of judge Joaquín Aguirre
The head of the court of inquiry number 1 in Barcelona, Joaquín Aguirre, has opened a separate piece of the Volhov case to investigate several personalities, including the former president of the Generalitat Artur Mas, ex-CDC officials such as Elsa Artadi and Víctor Terradellas, among others. In addition, he has asked the higher judicial instance to investigate the president in exile, Carles Puigdemont, and the deputy Francesc de Dalmases, who are indicted. This decision was taken after the Court of Barcelona forced it to annul the proceedings carried out since last August.
Gonzalo Boye’s reaction
Carles Puigdemont’s lawyer, Gonzalo Boye, has criticized the decision of judge Joaquín Aguirre, stating that ‘psychotropic drugs are dangerous’ and cause delusions. In addition, he reproached the instructor for ‘skipping’ the order of the Provincial Court of Barcelona and described the decision as an attempt to discredit the legislative and judicial power.
The position of the Attorney General of the State
For its part, the Attorney General of the State has requested the application of the amnesty law to several figures, including Carles Puigdemont, Toni Comín, Lluís Puig, Marta Rovira, Oriol Junqueras, Raül Romeva, Jordi Turull, Dolors Bassa and Clara Ponsatí. In addition, it asks to lift the search and capture or arrest warrants that weigh on sovereignist leaders who are outside the State. The Bar considers that the ex-president and the rest of those investigated for all the crimes imputed to them in the cases of the TS on the 1-O referendum can be amnestied, including the crimes of embezzlement.
