The College of Doctors of Lleida denounces the violence suffered by its members
During 2023, the College of Doctors of Lleida counted four cases of assaults on doctors, all verbal, while in 2022 it had registered seven, of which four were physical and three verbal. The College urges its members not to tolerate any form of violence in the exercise of their profession and to report it to the institution to receive legal advice and psychological support, if necessary, through the Comprehensive Care Program Sick Doctor (PAIMM).
A European campaign to sensitize society about respect for healthcare professionals
This Tuesday marks the European Day against Attacks on Doctors and Health Professionals, an initiative launched in 2020 by the Confederation of European Medical Associations and which aims to raise public awareness of the problem of violence that affects health personnel and its repercussions. The College of Doctors of Lleida joins this campaign and remembers that the safety of doctors is essential to guarantee quality medical care.
Assaults on healthcare professionals are increasing in Spain
According to data from the Spanish police, in 2023 there were 315 reports of assaults on healthcare professionals, 30% more than in 2022, when 241 were registered. Of these, 54% correspond to verbal assaults and 46% to physical assaults. In addition, the number of people arrested for these incidents was 115, almost twice as many as in 2022, when 60 were arrested.
