The memory of Daniel Osàcar: a life marked by politics and judicial investigation

A life dedicated to politics and justice

On Monday, March 18, Daniel Osàcar, the ex-treasurer of Convergència (CDC), died at the age of 88. His life was marked by his involvement in politics and his judicial investigation.

Osàcar was an active member of Convergència since 1982 and held relevant positions within the party, including that of treasurer between 2005 and 2010, under the presidency of Jordi Pujol. This stage coincided with his involvement in the Palau de la Música case, for which he was sentenced to 3 years and six months in prison by the Supreme Court.

Investigation and trial

His life was also marked by his investigation and trial in relation to the 3% case. Since 2014, Osàcar was imputed by the National Court for the 3% case and had his assets seized. In addition, he lived in a situation of the third degree from September 2020 until the time of his death, after spending 75 days in prison serving his sentence.

The 3% case was the subject of an exhaustive investigation, with National Court judge Santiago Pedraz reopening a separate part of the case last October. This piece investigated the donations to the party of several former councilors and former officials of Convergència Democràtica de Catalunya, among them Osàcar, for which illegal financing of the party was suspected.

A farewell to Daniel Osàcar

The ceremony for the death of Daniel Osàcar was held at the Sant Gervasi Mortuary. His death also brings to mind other relevant figures in Catalan politics, such as Fèlix Millet, sentenced to 8 years and 20 months in prison for the Palau de la Música case, and Jordi Montull, sentenced to 6 years, 8 months and 15 days, who they were classified in second grade and experienced situations different from those of Daniel Osàcar.
