A planned political offensive
The Popular Party is preparing to launch a series of motions from September with the aim of questioning the Catalan funding model. The Deputy Secretary of Regional and Local Coordination, Elías Bendodo, has revealed that these initiatives will be presented in town councils, provincial councils and regional parliaments, seeking to get the PSOE federations to position themselves on the controversial economic concert.
An uncomfortable debate for the PSOE
Bendodo has stated that this move represents an opportunity for socialism that feels uncomfortable with the alliance between the PSC and ERC, which allows Catalonia to disassociate itself from the common regime and manage tax collection independently. ‘There are voices within the PSOE that question this dynamic’, he declared, referring to figures such as Barbón and Page.
Mobilization at regional level
With the aim of generating a debate, the PP will register motions in various bodies to submit to a vote the rejection of the quota destined for Catalonia. ‘This is a great opportunity for those who want to express their disagreement with the decisions of the Spanish Government’, added Bendodo.
A key meeting between leaders
Alberto Núñez Feijóo, president of the PP, will meet in September with the regional presidents of his party to establish a joint strategy against the Catalan quota. The specific date of the meeting will be communicated shortly, but it is expected that the central themes will revolve around the unity of Spain and equal rights for all citizens.
Strengthening cohesion between territories
Bendodo has highlighted the importance of this meeting, recalling a previous meeting between Feijóo and the regional presidents of the PP, where it was agreed to implement a single selectivity for all territories. ‘These initiatives are fundamental to advance the cohesion of the State’, he concluded.
