Laura Borràs defends her position
Faced with the statements of the former mayor of Barcelona Xavier Trias in which he assured that the president-in-exile and Junts candidate in the May 12 elections, Carles Puigdemont should once again be the president of the Juntaire formation, the current president of Junts, Laura Borràs, has been decisive and has taken a position against Trias’s words. According to Borràs, she is the one who chairs the party and Puigdemont does not need an organic position. This Tuesday morning, in an interview with RTVE, Borràs stated that it is not the time to open debates of this kind at the gates of the Catalan elections, since they neither contribute nor add up. However, Borràs has acknowledged that he was not surprised by Trias’ statements, as he considers that he is a free person who says what he thinks.
Puigdemont no longer chairs Junts
During the interview, Laura Borràs has firmly defended her position, stating that Carles Puigdemont already stopped presiding over Junts at the moment he considered it appropriate. According to the president of the Juntaire formation, it is not necessary for Junts’ candidate in the 12-M to hold an organic position in the party to be able to head the list in the Catalan elections.
Demand for responsibilities in Salvador Illa
In addition, during the same interview, Borràs asked that the responsibilities of the head of the PSC list, Salvador Illa, be clarified for his alleged mismanagement at the head of the Ministry of Health during the pandemic. Borràs has criticized Illa for talking about good management while his actions at the Ministry of Health are being investigated. According to Borràs, Illa left for Madrid as a member of the PSC and returned to Catalonia as a member of the PSOE.
Criticism of Salvador Illa
The president of Junts has taken advantage of the interview to throw several reproaches against the socialist candidate in the 12-M. Borràs believes that Illa is proposing new recipes and wants to turn the page in the face of the next Catalan elections while he has to appear in Congress and the Senate to give explanations about the controversial purchase of masks during the pandemic.
