The price of electricity hits bottom this Sunday in 2022

The highest rate will be 191.54 euros/MWh between 9pm and 10pm

The cost of electricity recorded this Sunday its lowest value of 2022 with 111.35 euros/MWh, 28% lower than last Saturday (153.85 euros/MWh), according to the figures published by the Operator of the Iberian Energy Market (OMIE).

This is the fifth consecutive day of reduction in the price of electricity, which has been reduced by more than 50% since April 12, when it reached 237.30 euros/MWh. The highest rate this Sunday, April 17, will be 191.54 euros/MWh from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m., while the cheapest was 3.7 euros/MWh from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The price of electricity has multiplied by 1.7 in one year

Despite this drop, the price of electricity is still much higher than a year ago, when on Sunday 18 April 2021 it was 64.54 euros/MWh. This means that the cost of electricity has multiplied by 1.7 in 12 months, a rise that particularly affects domestic consumers and small businesses.

What factors influence the price of light?

The price of light depends on several factors, such as demand, supply, climate, the price of fossil fuels or CO2 emissions. These factors vary every day and every hour, which is why the price of electricity is also constantly changing. The electricity market is determined by auction, so that producers offer their energy at the lowest possible price and consumers buy it at the highest possible price. Thus, the final price is the result of the cross between supply and demand.
