Jordi Turull calls for mobilization
In a moment of great political turbulence, the general secretary of Junts per Catalunya, Jordi Turull, has urged his party to react to the current situation, marked by the agreement between PSC and ERC that has led Salvador Illa to the presidency of the Generalitat. “We have convened a congress to define our objectives and strategies to lead independence. We cannot settle for small concessions, we must fight for what really matters,” he said.
The goal of regaining popular support
Turull has stressed the importance of connecting with those citizens who have chosen not to participate in the elections. “Our goal is to reach those who have stayed at home, to show them that we keep fighting and don’t give up,” he explained. He acknowledged that many people have placed their trust in other political options, with disappointing results.
Criticism of ERC and its agreement with the PSC
With a forceful tone, Turull has not spared criticism towards ERC, accusing them of fracturing independence unity. “Until now, the forces that defend independence have worked together, but now they have chosen to give power to the PSC, which represents a more pro-Spanish option than ever,” he lamented. This decision, according to him, will not contribute to expanding the pro-independence movement.
Junts’ position in the face of the new reality
Turull has made it clear that Junts per Catalunya does not want to be passive support for anyone. “Our position is firm: we cannot accept being a crutch for other parties. When we left the government of Pere Aragonès, ERC had already begun to lean towards the demands of the PSOE, bypassing ours”, he stressed, reaffirming the independence and strength of Junts.
A look towards the future
With an eye on the next congress, Turull seeks to revitalize his base and call the citizens to a new stage of pro-independence mobilization. “It is time for unity and action. Our mission is to make people see that Junts is a party that will not give up,” he concluded, hinting at a future full of challenges but also opportunities for the movement.
