Tribute to the Celonians in the Nazi Extermination Camps

The Act of Remembrance and Recognition

Next Saturday, April 6, 2024, the entity La Força and the Sant Celoni City Council are organizing an act of remembrance and recognition in honor of the Celonians who were deported to the Nazi extermination camps. This act, entitled “Celonins in the Nazi extermination camps”, will consist of two significant parts.

Conference and Participation

The first part of the event will include a conference in the Bernat Martorell room at 11 am, presented by journalist Eva Calvet. This conference will have the participation of several specialists who will approach the subject from different sides, including the historical context, Mauthausen and the Nazi extermination camps, as well as the itinerary of the Celonian deportees to the Nazi camps. The speakers will include Fina Ferrando from the Amical de Buchenwald, Enric Garriga, president of the Amical de Buchenwald, Josep Maria Abril, Celonian historian, and Laura Sicart, professor of History at the Institut Baix Montseny. In addition, former students of the Institut Baix Montseny who have visited Mauthausen will also take part and explain how this experience has transformed them.

Tribute to the Deportees

The second part of the event will consist of the unveiling of a plaque commemorating the 8 deported Celonians, which will be placed in Plaça de la Vila to promote the recognition and reparation of the victims. This emotional tribute will take place at 2/4 of 1 in the afternoon in Plaça de la Vila.

Tribute to Honored Celonians

The Celonians honored are: Josep Rosés i Badia, Joan Serra i Monrabà, Jaume Pujolàs i Colobrans, Josep Pahissa i Bruguera, Salvador Raja i Garcia, Josep Dalmau i Rovelló, Jaume Illa i Pujadas, and Josep Soler i Barlet. This act of remembrance and recognition will culminate with a new proposal within the anti-fascist Spring on Saturday, April 27 with a tribute to Guillem Agulló.
