New resignation of the main management of Futbol Club Barcelona

An unexpected decision

In a short statement, the club has announced the resignation of the vice-president of Barça’s Economic Area, Eduard Romeu. As explained, the reason is the incompatibility with full dedication to his professional work. Due to this resignation, Barcelona president Joan Laporta will hold a press conference at half past eleven (11:30am) this Thursday to explain the situation.

Economic repercussions

Barça has confirmed that Laporta has accepted Romeu’s resignation, while also thanking him for his work at the head of the club’s financial department. This news comes just forty-eight hours after Barca’s victory in the Champions League against Napoli, achieving a significant success since 2020 and which will mean a significant financial income for the club’s coffers.

Sporting and economic success

Barça’s qualification to the quarter-finals of the Champions League has been a source of joy at a sporting level, as well as a positive impact on the club’s finances. In a complicated economic context, the Barça economy has received a total of 10.6 million euros as a prize for being among the eight best teams in the competition.

With this latest prize, Barça’s total European income this season amounts to 36.44 million euros. In addition, the four victories in the group stage added up to a total of 11.2 million euros, while qualifying for the round of 16, and doing so in first place in the group, has meant an additional income of 9.6 million euros for the Catalan club.

Economic prospects

The club’s financial forecasts indicated the need to qualify for the quarter-finals, a goal achieved for the first time in four years. This sporting success has generated a positive impact on the club’s coffers, providing a much-needed financial injection in these difficult times.
