The age limit for receiving a Social Security disability pension

The non-contributory Social Security disability pension

Social Security grants a non-contributory disability pension to those people who are not entitled to a contributory pension, but have a recognized disability of 65% and can prove it.

When granting this benefit, there is an established age limit. When this limit is reached, Social Security will stop paying the pension.

Requirements to qualify for the non-contributory disability pension

To be able to access this non-contributory disability pension, it is not enough to have a recognized disability of 65%. It is also necessary to demonstrate a vulnerable economic situation, as indicated by IMSERSO.

The established limit is 7,250.60 euros. However, if there are other members in the family unit, this limit may increase. To maintain this benefit, it is necessary to submit an annual income statement during the first quarter of the year.

The age limit for receiving the non-contributory disability pension

The non-contributory disability pension will be collected until the age of 65. When this age is reached, the benefit will become incompatible as the beneficiary will not meet the established age requirements.

To qualify for this benefit, you must be between 18 and less than 65 years old. This requirement also applies to permanent disability pensions. After receiving the benefit, the retirement period begins.

Requirements to access the non-contributory retirement pension

If a beneficiary receives the non-contributory disability pension benefit and reaches the age of 65, he must apply for the non-contributory retirement pension if he does not meet the requirements to access the contributory pension.

For this reason, you must be 65 years of age or older and prove that you have resided in Catalonia for at least 10 years, counted from the age of 16. It is also a requirement not to have an income higher than 7,250.60 euros per year.

Amount of the non-contributory retirement pension

The amount of the pension is determined based on the income of the applicant. If received, the amount will be 7,250.60 euros per year (517.90 euros in 14 payments). 525 euros can be added to this amount as a supplement if the beneficiary lives in a rental.
