The dilemma of FC Barcelona with Bernardo Silva and the alternatives in the transfer market

The complicated signing of Bernardo Silva for Barça

For some time now, FC Barcelona has shown great interest in incorporating Bernardo Silva, a direct request from Xavi Hernández. However, to date, the signing of the Portuguese remains a challenge. According to the newspaper Marca, there is a clause in Bernardo’s contract that expires on June 30, an opportunity that Laporta is aware of but cannot take advantage of due to the club’s financial restrictions.

Financial Fair Play has considerably limited Barça’s actions in the transfer market. Although Bernardo Silva wishes to join the Catalan team, current circumstances make this move practically impossible. The footballer has a release clause in his contract of 60 million euros, which cannot be activated by the club due to his financial problems.

This clause, which will expire soon, will force Barcelona to negotiate directly with Manchester City if they still wish to sign Bernardo Silva after June 30. However, City are not willing to sell their star for less than those 60 million, further complicating Barça’s hopes of signing the talented Portuguese midfielder.

The possible route for the signing of Bernardo Silva

Despite the difficulties, there is a possible way for Bernardo Silva to end up in Barcelona. Manchester City is also interested in selling another player: Joao Cancelo. For Cancelo, City is asking for between 25 and 30 million euros, a figure that Barça considers high but negotiable. This is where the Catalan club’s strategy comes in: offer 60 million euros for both players, a solution that could satisfy both parties.

Barça’s alternatives in the transfer market

Meanwhile, Barça is looking for alternatives to reinforce its wingers. Laporta has set his sights on Nico Williams, who has stood out in the Euro Cup and has shown a great connection with Lamine Yamal. Nico, in addition to being young and promising, would be a cheaper option. However, the player has expressed his intention to remain at Athletic Club, which complicates his possible signing.

Given this situation, Barça has considered Luis Díaz from Liverpool as a plan B. Despite being older than Nico, Díaz has more experience and goals, which could be valuable for the team.
