A pioneering initiative for menstrual equity

A campaign for menstrual equity

On Monday, March 4, the My rule, my rules campaign begins, a pioneering worldwide initiative promoted by the Department of Equality and Feminism. The aim of this campaign is to fight for menstrual equity and allow menstruating women and men to choose from a range of reusable products. These products can be requested through a QR code in the La Meva Salut app. This action is part of the 2023-2025 Comprehensive Menstrual and Menstrual Equity Plan, which includes a set of measures to promote equality and menstrual well-being.

Reusable menstrual products

During the campaign, menstruating women and men will be able to choose from several reusable products such as menstrual cups, menstrual panties and cloth pads. These products can be collected free of charge from pharmacies in Catalonia. The menstrual cup is a reusable silicone container that is inserted into the vagina to collect menstrual blood. Menstrual panties and cloth pads are more sustainable and eco-friendly alternatives to disposable products. This initiative seeks to raise awareness of the importance of reducing the consumption of non-reusable menstrual products and their environmental impact.

Who can participate?

The campaign is aimed at all menstruating women and people between the ages of 10 and 60, as well as non-binary people and trans men who menstruate. All these people will be able to activate the option in the La Meva Salut app and request the menstrual product they want. Girls under the age of 10 and people over the age of 60 are also allowed to apply for these products if they wish. The aim is to ensure that all people who menstruate have free access to reusable menstrual products.

Collection of the products

To collect reusable menstrual products, you need to redeem a personal QR code that can be found in the La Meva Salut app. This code will be valid until the chosen product is collected and will be available until 2025. The QR code can be found in the ‘News: My rule, my rules’ section of the My Health digital health space . In case of problems with the QR code, you can contact the Generalitat’s inquiry service to resolve the incident.

Collaborating pharmacies

The 3,284 pharmacies in Catalonia are collaborating in this campaign. In addition to distributing reusable menstrual products, pharmacies will also advise people to help them choose the product that best suits their needs. It is recommended to go to pharmacies in time to receive appropriate advice.

Investment and more information

The initiative ‘My rule, my rules’ has involved an investment of 8.5 million euros by the Department of Equality and Feminism. To obtain more information about this campaign, you can call 061 Salut Respons or access the Generalitat’s inquiry service.
