Alcoi approves the creation of a new Inclusion and Social Rights Council

Approved by the Plenary, this consultative participation body will replace the Social Welfare Council

The plenary session of the Alcoi City Council has unanimously approved the creation of a new Inclusion and Social Rights Council, as well as its regulations. The aim is to know the social situation of the municipality on an ongoing basis, in order to be able to develop a social policy of inclusion that responds to its changing reality.

A body for social inclusion and the reduction of inequalities

This Council aims to integrate the different work areas involved, with the aim of encompassing the multiple existing visions of the local reality, as well as to seek the most appropriate and viable way to address the main challenges surrounding social inclusion and the reduction of inequalities.

Strengthening democracy and guaranteeing citizen participation

As a main objective, this body aims to strengthen democracy and guarantee the participation of people in the realization of its goals. Its fundamental axes also pivot on a comprehensive conception of social services, alongside the search for maximum quality of life and social well-being.

A change in the way of working and thinking

As the councilor for Inclusive Policies, Aroa Mira, emphasizes, “this new body aims to replace the previous Social Welfare Council, broadening its focus to other areas that have to do with the social sphere and trying to change the working formulas and reflection between the Administration and the entities of the third sector, making them more operational and flexible with the incorporation of specific and permanent work tables depending on the project”.

Citizen representation and diversity of intervention

As a novelty, with the creation of this Council the aim is to bring together the different aspects of intervention in such a way that there is maximum representation of the citizens of the municipality. Its members will be represented by technical staff of the social services and representatives of the third sector municipal entities of a social and socio-health nature. It will also have a person representing the neighboring entities of the municipality, another from the Municipal School Council, the Local Council for Children and Adolescence (CLIA), the Housing Department of Alcoi and the Equality Commission of Alcoi City Council. Finally, one person will also be included as a representative of each group of the municipal corporation.

Specific work tables

In parallel to this, specific work tables will be established to work on specific needs that may arise during the course of this Council. In one of the work tables, the work and organization of activities of the social and socio-health entities will be collected.
