Celebrating International Women’s Day

Today is International Women’s Day and, on this occasion, Sóller has organized a series of events to claim and make visible the role of women in different areas.

Recognizing the History of Outstanding Women

The Co-Education Committee of the Guillem Colom Casasnoves Institute has led an activity in which students have highlighted the role of relevant scientists, artists and writers throughout history, providing a renewed and enriching vision.

Tribute to Maria Mayol

In an emotional tribute, the centre’s library has been dedicated to Maria Mayol, recognizing her contribution as a writer, pedagogue, republican politician and cultural activist, highlighting her participation in the elections and her literary legacy.

Emblematic Names for the Classrooms

Students have chosen names of relevant women for the center’s classrooms, such as Clara Schumann, Top Secret Rosies, Hedy Lamarr, Dorothea Bate, Margalida Alemany, Rosa Parks, Úrsula Pueyo, Cindy Sherman, Lise Meitner, Mercè Rodoreda, Carmen Baroja, Mary Shelley, Katherine Johnson, Aurora Picornell and BALÈRIA, highlighting their contributions in different areas.

Manifesto to Celebrate 8M

To close the activity, a manifesto will be read to celebrate the 8M, claiming the road that still remains to be traveled in the fight for gender equality and the recognition of the progress achieved.

Exhibition ‘Mirades Solleriques’

In addition, the exhibition ‘Mirades Solleriques’ will be inaugurated, an exhibition shared by 15 Sollerique artists and which highlights female creativity and talent, vindicating the role of women in the artistic field.

Other Acts in Collaboration with the Council for Equality

Among the events scheduled for the weekend, the reading of the manifesto and the traditional race of the Woman in the Port stand out, as well as a parade entitled ‘Poderosa’, organized by the model Nendy Bota, which highlights strength and determination of women in today’s society.
