Complaint by Citizens against the President of the Parliament and members of the Bureau

Ciutadans denounces the president of the Parliament and members of the Bureau

The Ciutadans party has filed a complaint with the Prosecutor’s Office of the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia against the President of the Parliament, Anna Erra, and the members of the Bureau Aurora Madaula and Carles Riera. This complaint is related to the admission to procedure of a Popular Legislative Initiative (ILP) of Catalan Solidarity for Independence.

Reasons for the complaint

According to Carlos Carrizosa, leader of Ciutadans, these members may have committed crimes of prevarication and disobedience by admitting the ILP that calls for the declaration of independence. The complaint lists as reasons both the votes in favor of members of the Admissions Committee and the rejection of the request for reconsideration presented by Ciutadans.

Argumentation of Citizens

Ciudadans argues that this ILP directly contravenes the pronouncements of the Constitutional Court and that it has an obvious potential to disrupt peaceful public coexistence. The party assures that the final objective of the proposal is to constitute the Assembly of Representatives of the Catalan Nation which will proceed with the unilateral declaration, referring to the DUI of October 2017.

Reactions and other complaints

Both Citizens and other political groups asked the Bureau to reconsider the decision, but the request was overturned with the support of pro-independence groups. In addition, Ciutadans’ complaint is added to the complaint that Vox filed a few days ago before the TSJC, also for prevarication.
