Debate on budgets in Catalonia

Together they pressure the executive of Pere Aragonès

With 48 hours left for the debate on all the budgets, the Government has not yet managed to gather enough votes for the bills to pass the first stage. With time against it, Junts has increased the pressure on the executive of Pere Aragonès by presenting an amendment in its entirety this Monday morning. The aim is to test the Government’s negotiating capacity and force a compromise to stop the Hard Rock project.

The commons keep the pulse

The commons, on the other hand, keep the pulse until the end. If there is no commitment to stop the Hard Rock project, they will freeze the accounts. Joan Mena, spokesperson for Catalunya en Comú, declared in a press conference: “We insist that we must end the Urban Master Plan (PDU) of Hard Rock once and for all. That ERC should stop fooling the partridge.” The communes are willing to negotiate until the last minute to reach agreements.

The Government points to “prevarication”

From the Government they point out that voting against the totality of the budgets could lead the executive to the ground of “prevarication”. However, the commons reject this idea and remember that the procedure is done in the Generalitat’s Territory commission, chaired by Councilor Ester Capella.

ERC looks for alternatives

In the event that there is no agreement on the Hard Rock project, ERC already has alternative routes activated. One of them is to put pressure on the leader of Sumar, Yolanda Díaz, so that the commons approve the bills in Catalonia. However, the commons criticize this option and claim that the decision on Catalonia’s budgets must be made in Catalonia.

The future of budgets

The future of budgets will depend on the ability to negotiate and the agreements that can be reached between the different political forces. The next few hours will be decisive in determining whether the bills pass the first stage and move towards their final approval.
