Macron does not rule out a Western military intervention in Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression

The French president calls for unity among allies and warns that Russia cannot get away with it

The leader of France, Emmanuel Macron, has made a strong statement in relation to the conflict in Ukraine, where Russia has been invading territory and defying the international community for two years. Macron has stated that sending Western troops to the Slavic country to curb the Russian offensive cannot be ruled out. This would mean a possible military intervention by the United States, the European Union or the United Kingdom.

“We must not rule anything out; we will do whatever it takes to prevent Russia from winning this war,” he said from Paris, where he convened a conference with several leaders and ministers of the European Union and NATO to reaffirm the support of allies in Kyiv. Although he acknowledged that there is still no agreement to officially send ground forces, he remarked that “everything is possible if it serves to achieve our goal.” “Russia cannot and must not win this war,” he summed up.

Paris hosts an international summit on the two-year anniversary of the Russian invasion

French President Emmanuel Macron has used the international summit he has organized in Paris to commemorate two years since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine to send a warning message: “We must prepare for a Russian attack in Europe in the coming years”, he said on Monday, in the face of the “strengthening” of the Kremlin’s position in foreign policy.

At the same time, he has sent the message to Moscow that Europe will continue to support Ukraine and look for ways to advance its role in the war. In front of twenty heads of state and government, most of them European, Macron defended that Vladimir Putin continues to cross red lines and referred to the increase in hostilities also outside the military sphere, with the death of most prominent internal opponent, Alexei Navalny.

With the German chancellor, Olaf Scholz, the Polish president, Andrej Duda, and the Spanish president, Pedro Sánchez, staged on Monday the “solidity” of the European alliance. “We are not giving up. Russia will not win in Ukraine”, he made it clear, while analyzing that it is “European security” and not only Ukrainian security that is at stake. All, however, without the presence of the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, who was in Paris last week and whom Macron will visit this March.
