The former ambassador to the UN wins the Republican primaries
The former governor of South Carolina, Nikki Haley, won her first victory over Trump in the Republican primaries on Sunday, winning in Washington DC. According to the first projections by CNN and NBC News, the former US representative to the UN would have obtained 63% of the vote, against Trump’s 33%.
A symbolic victory awaiting the verdict of the Supreme Court
This victory is symbolic as the Washington D.C. district. it only elects 19 delegates out of the 2,429 that will arrive at the Republican convention. However, this victory comes at a key time, as the US Supreme Court must rule on whether Trump can run in the primaries. There are signs that the Court will make public its decision on the Republican’s eligibility for the primary election in Colorado, the first state to veto the former president from the race.
The road to the primaries
With these 19 delegates won in Washington D.C., Nikki Haley has a total of 43 delegates, a far cry from Trump’s 244. So far, Trump has won every other vote taken, including the Iowa and Michigan caucuses and the South Carolina primary.
