Peasant protests continue
One more day, farmers continue their protests to point out the structural problems affecting the primary sector and to ask for solutions. This Wednesday, new road closures took place as a form of protest.
Concentrations in the AP-7
The concentrations continue in the AP-7, near the demarcation of Girona. About 400 farmers, accompanied by their tractors, have blocked the road in the sections of Borrassà in the south direction and between Vilademuls and Cervià de Ter in the north direction. So far, there has been no major impact on traffic, although delays of approximately one kilometer have been formed in each cut section.
Recommended detour
The Catalan Traffic Service has recommended that drivers take a detour in each case. For the sections cut from Borrassà, it is advisable to take exit 4 Figueres Sud, and for the sections cut between Vilademuls and Cervià de Ter, it is advisable to take the exit for Vilademuls.
Other road closures
In addition to the cuts on the AP-7, there have also been cuts on the C-38 around Molló, Girona, and on the N-II between Bàscara and Vilademuls, and between Pontós and Vilamalla. These cuts have caused traffic delays of up to four kilometers in both directions.
Commitment of the Catalan and Spanish governments
The farmers have announced that they will remain in AP-7 until they get commitments from the Catalan and Spanish governments. More than 300 farmers from Girona have spent the night at the intersection of the highway and the N-II near Pontós after reaching an agreement with the Mossos d’Esquadra not to evict them.
Cuts elsewhere
In addition to the cuts in Girona, farmers’ mobilizations are also planned in Lleida and Barcelona. In Lleida, road closures are planned in Soses, Almacelles and several roads such as the A-2, the AP-2, the A-22, the LL-12 and the C-13. In Barcelona, a cut is expected on the C-59 in Vallès.
Protests continue and farmers hope to receive a political response to their demands. Meanwhile, they continue with rallies and roadblocks to achieve their goals.
