Arrest for Labor Crime
A joint operation between agents of the Urban Guard of Tarragona and specialists in Crimes against Persons of the Judicial Police of the Civil Guard has culminated in the arrest of a person for an alleged crime against workers’ rights.
Investigation and Inspection
The operation began last November 2023 after receiving information about possible labor exploitation in an establishment open to the public in Tarragona. An investigation was carried out which confirmed the presence of a person who could be being exploited at work, working many hours beyond the legally established working day.
Inspections and Consequences
After identifying the situation, an inspection was carried out at the premises accompanied by technicians from the Labor Inspectorate. It was discovered that the affected person did not have an employment contract and was in restrictive conditions with respect to his legally recognized employment rights. In addition, other inspections were carried out in premises in the area, identifying another person without a contract, which resulted in an act for administrative infringement in labor matters.
Detainee and Legal Actions
Police proceedings have been opened for a crime against workers’ rights and the alleged perpetrator, an individual of foreign origin, has been arrested. Once the proceedings have been completed, they will be handed over to the Tarragona Guardian Magistrate’s Court.
