Protest by Girona and Upper Temporanda farmers

Farmers from Girona and Altempordano empty trucks of fruit and vegetables

Farmers from the regions of Girona and Alt Empordà have carried out a forceful protest by emptying several trucks full of fruit and vegetables that came from Morocco and were stuck on the AP-7. This action has been carried out simultaneously with the cutting of the N-II, right at its crossing in Pontós.

The farmers have decided to burst the floodgates of at least five trucks that were transporting loads of fruit and vegetables. This load will be given to the food bank to help the most needy people.

An indefinite protest

The member of Revolta Pagesa and Unió de Pagesos, Jordi Ginebreda, has explained that this protest does not have a defined duration and that it will continue until the outstanding commitments are fulfilled. Ginebreda emphasized that this action was carried out peacefully and with caution to avoid accidents, immediately informing the 112 emergency service.

Traffic cuts and barricades

The protest started at midnight with a slow march. The tractors have blocked the two roads, the AP-7 and the N-II, at the same point where a similar protest took place two weeks ago. This action has been taken to avoid situations of tension with the security forces.

During the protest, trees were used to block the N-II and barricades with tractors were set up on the highway. These actions have caused delays and left several vehicles and trucks stuck.

Solidarity with the most needy

The concentrated farmers have allowed the exit of the passenger cars, but have left the trucks isolated. After checking the trucks, six of them were found to be transporting products from Morocco. As a gesture of protest, the farmers have emptied the load of these trucks and intend to donate some of the fruit and vegetables to the Food Bank.

Jordi Ginebreda has stated that the protest will continue indefinitely, since the pending commitments have not been fulfilled. The aim is to achieve solutions for the agricultural sector and guarantee a sustainable future for farmers.

Immovable claims

At mid-morning, those summoned will announce their demands, which they consider immovable. These claims are expected to include measures to improve the working conditions of farmers, support for local production and environmental protection.
