Research paper to disseminate the work of seventeen white women of all eras

Students from the Catalan Office in Blanes give visibility and rescue from possible oblivion several Blanes women from all areas and eras

In the framework of the 8-M, several students of the Catalan classes for adults of the Oficina de Català de Blanes have set themselves a milestone in the line of the international commemoration that has already been lived with particular intensity for many days.

With their efforts, the students have contributed to organizing an activity that has consisted of giving visibility, rescuing from possible oblivion several white women from all areas and historical periods. More specifically, the initiative came from a group of students from the Elementary 2 group, after they visited the offices of the Municipal Archives.

During the visit, they were encouraged to document themselves to find out more about the women of Blanes. This is how, with the help of the technicians from the Municipal Archives of the City of Blanes, the students have produced some posters that have served as the basis for a physical exhibition, as well as to set up a video that has been spreading through social networks.

A total of 17 posters have been produced with a biographical extract and photographs of the protagonists, which help spread the word about the work that women of all eras developed and continue to do today. From the Viscountess Violant de Prades, in the 15th century – who had the Gothic Fountain built – to the present day, in the 21st century. There are painters, actresses, writers and musicians to politicians and women who have cultivated other social spheres.

The honored women are Angelina Montells (writer); Anna Barnés (photographer); Esperança Ros (photographer); Maria Dolors Oms (mayor and Aspronis foundation); Maria lluïsa Vidal (Painter and feminist); Maria Teresa Bedós (painter, dancer and poet); Maria Aladern (writer); Maria Castanyer (writer); Maria Ribas (generalitat presidency department); Maria Rosa Vidal (musician and pedagogue); Marta Grau (actress); Marta Santa-Olalla Grau (artist); Mayte Vieta (artist), Montserrat Medalla (writer); Rachel Russell (draftsman and watercolorist); Roser Atmetlla (writer) and Violant de Prades (Viscountess)

The Office of Catalan has noted that, with the completion of this work, it has been demonstrated that Catalan classes do not only aim to learn to speak and write this language. They transcend this main objective to go further: to involve students with other cultural, historical and social aspects of the population where they live and coexist.

The physical exhibition of these posters could be seen last Friday, during the itinerant poetic commemoration on the occasion of the 8M that took place in front of Blanes Town Hall, in the square in front of the County Library, and in the square of the Our Lady of Vilar d’Els Pins. On the other hand, they are also exhibited at the Casa de la Cultura and at the SAFA School – the headquarters of the Catalan courses -, as well as at the Regional Library, which began exhibiting them last Friday, coinciding with International Day of Women, and that it will continue to do so until the end of this month of March.
