Salvador Illa, the president who acts responsibly

The PSC supports the ERC budgets for 2024

The first secretary of the PSC, Salvador Illa, showed this Saturday that he is already president of the Generalitat, despite not having the position. This has been confirmed by the mayor of Barcelona, Jaume Collboni, who has praised his decision to support the budgets of the Esquerra Republicana executive for 2024. Collboni has participated, together with Illa, in the pre-congress day of the Socialists Catalans “Now it’s time to govern with the councils”, which was held in Manresa.

According to Collboni, Illa has made “a responsible gesture” by supporting accounts that “do not talk about dreams or challenges, but about housing, education, security and the real fight against the drought”. The Batlle de Barcelona has criticized the Government’s management in this matter: “It is an example of what cannot happen again”, he said. And he added that “the worst known drought crisis in Catalonia could have been avoided if we had had a government from the Generalitat that had been thinking about the problems and challenges”.

Collboni has remarked that the Government now chaired by Pere Aragonès has also not acted with foresight in areas such as health, education, housing and public transport. “We cannot lose more opportunities and think that the world is watching us when the world continues to turn,” he said.

Illa demands the approval of the amnesty law

For his part, Illa has appealed this Saturday to the rest of the formations to “be up to the task in the coming days and weeks” and approve the amnesty law, which he considers necessary “for political normalization, social and institutional”, as the title says. The leader of the Catalan Socialists has pointed out that the PSC “always pays attention to the Venice Commission”, both when it “said that the standards for the ‘fake’ consultation of 1-O were not met” and now that it supports the ‘amnesty: “Others only paid attention to him when he referred to the fake referendum, others now with the amnesty”.

Illa has defended that “a new leaf must be turned to focus the country’s energies, and this must be done with the help of the country’s town councils”. The head of the opposition has also sent a veiled message to the Government, with which the PSC has agreed the budgets of the Generalitat for 2024: “There are two models for governing Catalonia: those who want to govern with suspicion of councils and those who we want to govern with the councils,” he said.
