One of the challenges of the Church of Solsona is to win back those who strayed from the faith
In his weekly commentary in Full Diocesà, the prelate of Solsona, Francesc Conesa, reflects on one of the situations that the Church of Solsona is experiencing: the loss of faithful who grew up in the bosom of the Church, but who, for different reasons reasons, they felt disappointed and stopped practicing the faith.
The causes of disaffection
Conesa recognizes that “we are missing people who used to be very involved in our parishes, but who later left with sadness and hopelessness.” Faced with this, he questions the causes, which are numerous and varied: “the environment we live in does not favor the profession of one’s faith, but rather leads progressively to concealing it or, at most, to to live it in a “light” way, without any excessive demands. Also certain attitudes and positions of the Church have certainly disappointed many people, who expected another Church that was more humble and more faithful to the Gospel. The scandals of everything types that occur in the Church – and especially the issue of abuse – cause the indifference and abandonment of many. Similarly, the inconsistency, lack of authenticity and hypocrisy of many believers causes the rejection of many people of good will .”
What to do with those who left
Regarding what needs to be done with those who left, the bishop of Solsona encourages the faithful to live their faith with joy and coherence, “showing that in this Church of saints and sinners you can live in the following of Jesus”. In addition, it is important to “always leave the door open”, so that those who left know that “the Church will always be their home” and, if one day they decide to return, find a community that, despite their weaknesses, he wants to be faithful to the Gospel.
