The commons ask ERC to rectify and withdraw the Hard Rock PDU

The commons demand that ERC rectify and withdraw the Hard Rock PDU

The commons have asked Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya (ERC) to rectify and withdraw the Urban Master Plan (PDU) of the Hard Rock. This request is conditional on the negotiation of the budgets. According to Joan Mena, spokesman for Catalunya En Comú, this macro-project has been included at the behest of the Socialist Party of Catalonia (PSC) and Salvador Illa. Mena has asked for a commitment from the Republicans so that they do not process the master plan and, therefore, abandon it. In addition, he regretted that ERC has threatened not to approve the State budget if the commons do not support the Hard Rock PDU.

Catalunya En Comú criticizes ERC’s position

Joan Mena has expressed his perplexity at ERC’s position and has questioned whether the government is prepared to jeopardize the approval of budgets for a project that they themselves are not defending. Mena recalled the words of Pere Aragonès, president of the Generalitat, who stated that this is a political decision. For this reason, he has asked ERC to stop being a subsidiary government of what Salvador Illa is asking for.

The Hard Rock as a red line

The spokesperson for the commons has highlighted two factors that make the Hard Rock project a red line. First of all, the emergency context due to drought that makes this type of macro-project unviable. Secondly, the impossibility of going back once the Urban Master Plan has been approved. Mena has stated that the government must be able to make coherent decisions and not put budgets at risk for a project that is not the model they defend (https://www.softcatala.org/resum-de-textos-en- Catalan/).

Support for amnesty

In another matter, Joan Mena has described the eventual approval of the amnesty as a great step by the country to end judicialization. According to the commons, this decision opens a new stage in Spain and Catalonia, where dialogue and politics will play a central role in working towards a new future between Catalonia and the State. Mena has stated that it is time for everyone to put their ideas on the table.
