The commons do not give up in the budget negotiation with the Government and have presented an amendment to the entire law. The president of the parliamentary group, Jéssica Albiach, has stated that they will only withdraw it if the Executive renounces what they consider their main obstacle: the construction of the Hard Rock leisure macro complex in Tarragona.
The commons say ‘no’ to the budgets agreed with the PSC
A week after the Catalan Executive closed an agreement with the PSC for the 2024 accounts, the commons remain in the ‘no’, which would prevent the approval of the law. On Monday there was a meeting between both parties to try to bring positions closer, but there was no progress. And this Tuesday En Comú Podem has decided to present the amendment to the entirety, which will be put to a vote in plenary on March 13 and 14.
The commons demand the stoppage of the macrocasino project
“If they publicly renounce this harmful, polluting and outdated project, we will withdraw the amendment,” Albiach declared about the macro casino project. “I couldn’t be more clear and transparent,” he added.
The negotiations between the Government and the Communes thus continue to be blocked by Hard Rock. From the purple, they assure that the Executive of Pere Aragonès can paralyze it before the Urban Master Plan (PDU) that should allow it is approved, and that it is waiting for a decisive environmental report. It must be remembered that the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia partially annulled the previous version of the plan in 2020 due to chemical risk on the casino grounds.
Government sources have been warning for weeks that the project, promoted by Artur Mas’ CiU government more than a decade ago, and which has changed investor hands up to three times, is at a point in the administrative process that does not make it possible to stop it. . If the PDU is not published as planned, or if the project is not executed if the reports are favorable, the Executive assures that they will have to face million-dollar compensation and judicial consequences.
The commons raise other proposals to negotiate the accounts
Apart from the Hard Rock, the commoners have proposed other measures to negotiate the budgets, although not with the same firmness. Among them are recovering the sixth hour of class in public schools, universalizing dining or extracurricular scholarships or 1,000 million euros to facilitate access to housing. Government sources assure that there is room for agreement on these measures, although Albiach has stated from the Parliament that they have not made any progress on it either.
