The FC Andorra stadium project needs the approval of the municipality and the Government

The Consul General of Andorra la Vella does not rule out supporting the initiative, but asks that it benefit the citizens

Sergi González, the highest representative of the commune of Andorra la Vella, expressed this morning on RNA radio his position regarding the stadium project that FC Andorra, the football club owned by Gerard Piqué, wants to promote. González has stated that he will not put “the red carpet” on the club, but he will not veto it either, as long as the project adds value to the citizens of the capital.

In this sense, the consul has explained that the project should be “50-50” between the club and the common, that is to say, that it should have a sports part and another social part. Thus, he has suggested that the stadium could host community activities or be open to the public, and that it also include housing and a green space for the residents.

A tripartite meeting to define the project

González has acknowledged that he has not yet seen any specific project of FC Andorra, and that therefore he cannot give a definitive opinion. However, he has advanced that this week there will be a tripartite meeting between the club, the municipality and the Government, in order to learn the details of the initiative and assess its viability.

The consul has said that from the community they have no special interest in the area where the club wants to build the stadium, the Borda Mateu de Santa Coloma, and that they would be willing to cede between 10,000 and 15,000 square meters, as long as the Government considers the project of general interest, an issue that could be resolved at this week’s meeting.
