The Nature Protection Service of the Civil Guard and the Local Police of Constantí discover illegal activities in agricultural warehouses

Discovery of illegal activities

The Nature Protection Service (Seprona) of the Civil Guard and the Local Police of Constantí have carried out a joint operation in which they have discovered illegal activities in three agricultural warehouses located in the La Rafola lot.

Various activities without authorization have been detected in these warehouses, such as vehicle repair, the breeding of guinea fowl and carpentry. In addition, it has been verified that one of the warehouses was used as a warehouse for a waste company.

Discovery of illegal offspring from Australia

During the inspection, the authorities found cages for the breeding of finch birds without authorization in one of the ships. More than 70 specimens of these birds have been counted in inadequate conditions.

In addition, cages with 12 specimens of mutilated roosters have been found in another ship. This situation required the assistance of a registered veterinarian to certify the mutilations, such as cuts to the crests, chins, spurs and plucking of feathers from the thighs and lower abdomen.

Intervention of illegal supplements

In addition to illegal vehicle repair and poultry farming activities, authorities have also seized vitamin supplements and invigorators for birds, as well as syringes and scissors used for mutilations. These indications suggest that the birds were being prepared to participate in cockfights.

Legal actions

As a result of this operation, police investigations have been initiated for an alleged crime of animal abuse. The proceedings have been sent to the Court of Inquiry acting as a guard in Tarragona and to the Environmental Prosecutor’s Office.

Both Seprona and the Local Police have drawn up a total of 17 acts-complaints for different administrative infractions related to illegal activities in agricultural warehouses.
