The new location of the soccer and basketball court in Olot

The decision to move the track

The soccer and basketball court that was in Plaça Campdenmàs in Olot has been moved to a new location. After more than two years of closure due to a court ruling, the City Council has taken the decision to move it to the Malatosquer park, specifically in the Solfa area. This decision has been taken taking into account the need to comply with the sentence and to provide an adequate space for the children and young people of the city.

Reasons for the transfer

The Olot City Council had known for years that the Campdenmàs track had to be moved to another part of the city. Now, after the execution of the sentence, it has been decided to take it to the outskirts in order to give it a proper use. The mayor of Olot, Pep Berga, has explained that although it is a shame not to have all the desired spaces in the center of the city, it is important to comply with the judicial decisions and provide a space where young people can enjoy the sport

History of the Can Tané track

The Can Tané track, located next to Plaça de Campdenmàs, was inaugurated in 2013. However, in 2016 there was litigation related to the rezoning of land and a neighbor won the court case. This decision forced the City Council to move the track to a new location.

The transfer and the works

The transfer of the Can Tané football and basketball court to the Malatosquer park is expected to take place in a matter of weeks. The City Council has already started the procedures for contracting the necessary works for the installation of the track in the new location. This move highlights the importance of complying with court decisions and providing adequate spaces for sport and leisure for the city’s young people.

Future projects

With the new location of the football and basketball court, Olot City Council has studied the possibility of building a multipurpose facility in the space previously occupied by the court. This project would be included in the new Carme Island that is being planned and would provide a space for different sports and leisure activities.
