The Land Carnival in Torelló
started this Thursday with the Pullassu celebration. The characters of this playful-festive-sexual party have traveled the streets of the municipality in a parade until they have reached Plaça Vella, where the so-called Rauxa Ritual has been celebrated. The main novelty this year has been the total renovation of Margalef, the bastard son of the Carnival King and main giant of the party, which has been carried out by the artists Tavi Algueró and Àngel Rigall. The Olotinians were already responsible for creating the Xirri figure that was released last year. In the case of Fortiana, the giant has been partially restored.
Let the Carnival of Terra Endins begin
With these words, the Carnival King has officially given the go-ahead to the debauchery that will flood Torelló until next Wednesday, when the sardine is buried. Cobla, grallers, giants, capgrossos, devils and choral singing were mixed this Thursday night in Plaça Vella, the epicenter of the party.
The Pullassu and the Rauxa Ritual
Previously, all the characters who participate in the Pullassu have started the parade through the old town after listening carefully to the words of the Carnival King in Plaça de la Vila. Once the tour is over, a famous ritual that has been celebrated for more than twenty years on the occasion of Llarder Thursday has begun.
The Pullassu and the popular culture of Torello
Xapot the Sorcerer has begun to entangle Margalef, the bastard son of the Carnival King, in order to cut off his penis so that he can eat sausage and drink magical apozema – a concoction specific to the party. All together, in a ceremony in which bestiary, music and audience claim to be the greatest exponents of Torellon popular culture.
Renewal of the characters
The imagery renovation project also planned to restore the rest of the characters, but it could not be done and has been postponed until next year.
Upcoming activities of the Terra Endins Carnival
On Friday, the debauchery will continue with the Ladies and Gentlemen and on Saturday it will be the turn of the crowded street of the Terra Endins Carnival. The party will have 26 floats and around 3,500 participants. In addition, the arrival of hundreds of groups of friends and families is expected to form a mosaic of colors along the entire street. The total attendance is expected to be around 20,000 visitors.
