A relationship under public scrutiny
Much is said about the relationship between Felipe and Letizia, since Jaime del Burgo uncovered the possible true reason for their great crisis, the kings are in the media spotlight. Every gesture is scrutinized down to the last detail. According to the lawyer, the queen would have been unfaithful to the king with him. They met in the early 2000s and broke up in 2003, but a year after the royal wedding they got back together again. The then princess was overcome by the situation. She saw that she did not belong in this world, the ambition to become the most powerful woman in the country overcame her. He was about to leave with Jaime del Burgo in Miami, but at that time Leonor had already been born and he could not leave without her.
A relationship marked by mistrust
Letizia was on the verge of divorce even on two occasions, Felipe no longer trusted the mother of his daughters, and he can never forgive a lie. The kings have tried to solve their problems without success. Since 2013 they would lead separate lives. They don’t sleep in the same room, nor do they make plans together unless it’s to conclude rumors in front of the cameras. All getaways are with friends, each with their own. This past year, since Leonor and Sofia no longer live in the palace, the relationship is even more broken. The king confessed to the press that life had become much more boring.
The cessation of cohabitation
The Royal House forbids Felipe and Letizia to divorce, however both would have decided to end coexistence following the example of Juan Carlos and Sofia. After all the commotion generated with Jaime del Burgo, Zarzuela thinks it would be convenient for the kings to definitively announce the cessation of cohabitation, but it is something that might not happen until their daughters are of age, this will happen in April 2025.
A relationship in crisis
According to Pilar Eyre, the marriage would be completely broken. “What I see now is that Letizia suffers enormous loneliness. The queen is being attacked and things are being said about her that must hurt her as a woman and as a queen. I don’t see that anyone from her family, neither her husband nor the royals come out to defend her,” says Eyre. “Seeing their attitudes, I think that this marriage is going through a tremendous loss because the complicity and the glances that were dedicated at the beginning are no longer there. Maybe before it was also a story, now I consider it… But it’s not now they don’t even bother to pretend they have a good relationship.”
