Introduction
The Government of the Generalitat needs to find a second partner to approve the budgets after the agreement with the PSC. However, the CUP has ruled out the possibility of reaching an agreement with the Executive of Pere Aragonès and has ended the negotiations. This represents an obstacle for the Government, since in the 2023 budgets the anti-capitalists did not even meet with the Government, and this year, although documents have been exchanged, the talks have not reached a successful conclusion.
Disappointment and disagreement
In a meeting with the Government, CUP deputies Xavier Pellicer and Mar Ampurdanés expressed their disappointment in the pact with the socialists. According to them, the Government has renounced the left-wing and pro-independence policies that the country needs and depends on the crumbs of the PSC. They believe this was the last chance for the president to turn the legislature around, but now they believe he has thrown himself overboard.
Amendment to all accounts
In the absence of an agreement, the CUP will propose to its bases the need to present an amendment to the entire budget for 2024, which the Government has approved this week and which have already begun its parliamentary processing despite not having the support necessary for its approval.
Other possible partners
President Pere Aragonès has called on Junts and the commons to support this year’s budgets. However, the CUP has been excluded from this request, since it has not supported any of the three budgets presented by the Government. Meanwhile, the commons demand that the Executive abandon the Hard Rock project if it wants to continue negotiating, while Junts has harshly criticized the agreement with the PSC. Despite everything, the Government is confident that the budgets will go ahead.
