The Government and the PSC reach an agreement

The Government and the PSC have reached an agreement to approve the 2024 budgets, according to socialist and Presidency sources. The president of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès, and the first secretary of the PSC and leader of the opposition, Salvador Illa, will sign the pact this afternoon. The Catalan executive has announced that it will approve the accounts this Wednesday in an extraordinary council.

Intense negotiations

The agreement comes after weeks of intense negotiations in which the Socialists have pressed the ERC Government to renew its commitment to the expansion of Barcelona airport and to the approval of the urban plan that must allow the commissioning of the Hard Rock, two conditions that already delayed last year’s budgets.

Pressure on the commons

After the pact between ERC and the PSC, all the pressure is now on the roof of the commons. In principle, it is planned that the Government will meet with Catalunya En Comú this week to try to close the tripartite agreement, but Jéssica Albiach’s people are ready to force the hand of the executive of Pere Aragonès.

Terms to negotiate

The Socialists had set as a condition for negotiating the 2024 budgets that the Government “fulfills the commitments” acquired last year. And so it has been, even though the talks have progressed in parallel with the gestures that the PSC demanded from the Generalitat.

Reaction of the commons

Unlike last year, the commons wanted to wait for the ERC-PSC pact to have the pan by the handle and force the Government to accept their conditions to approve budgets that, on the other hand, they do not feel obliged to approve later having voted in favor of the last three.
