Monitoring of protests
During the morning of Tuesday, the Mossos d’Esquadra began a device to follow the evolution of the protests of the Catalan peasants. From different parts of the country, tractors moved towards the area of Girona, in the municipality of Pontós, to cut off traffic on the AP-7 and the N-2. Cuts were also made on the A-2 in Tàrrega and on the AP-2 in Soses and Tàrrega, in the Ponent region. In addition, slow marches were carried out in the capital of Campo de Tarragona. Although the concentration in the Imperial Tarraco square in Tarragona was dissolved at night, blocks were maintained on other important roads towards Girona and Ponent.
CECOR of the Mossos in Egara
The Mossos d’Esquadra organized a CECOR at the Mossos d’Esquadra Central Complex, Egara, in Sabadell. This coordination center was active throughout Tuesday and will continue to operate until Thursday, when the farmers’ protests are expected to end. Although the majority unions of the Catalan peasantry are leading the protests, the Peasant Platform has warned that the protest could be “indefinite” if their demands are not met. Yesterday’s meeting with Acció Climàtica was not satisfactory and the farmers regret the absence of Minister Mascort at the meeting.
CECOR operation
The CECOR, directed by Chief Commissioner Eduard Sallent and with the presence of the Director General of the Police, Pere Ferrer, aimed to coordinate the police regions that participated in the device from the early hours of the morning. Work was done to free the trucks that had been trapped on the AP-7, where there were moments of tension when Catalan farmers threw foreign products onto the ground. During the day, truckers and vehicles were evacuated, although some were damaged.
Tracking of cuts
From Egara, with Sallent and other commanders of the general police stations involved, the evolution of the cuts was followed and contact was maintained with the regional heads of Ponent, Girona and Camp de Tarragona. Commissioners Josep Maria Estela and Sílvia Catà, responsible for the regions of Ponent and Girona, respectively, and mayor Vicenç Lleonart, of Camp de Tarragona, participated in meetings every two hours with the chief commissioner and the heads of the general and police stations. the territorial superior police station, headed by Commissioner David Boneta.
Coordination and surveillance
In different spaces of Egara, where the Central Command Room (SCC) and the crisis room are located, the cameras of police helicopters, vehicles and drones were monitored to follow the cuts and diversions, guaranteeing the right to protest of the peasants and the circulation of other road users. After securing the area in the morning, the situation remained calm throughout the day, with no incidents in the cuts that generated kilometers of queues and trapped vehicles, especially at the entrance to the country through Zaragoza.
Moments of tension in the Campo de Tarragona
The only moments of tension of the day were experienced in the Campo de Tarragona, in front of the Climate Action delegation in Tarragona. A group of farmers entered the place to deliver a manifesto, while other farmers threw tomatoes against the facade. The Mossos d’Esquadra deployed ARRO public order units, with helmets and shields, to prevent a possible incursion into the government office, but the situation was able to be controlled.
Continuation of road closures
The Catalan peasants who are on a war footing continue to block the roads. They have managed to place dozens of heavy vehicles, such as tractors, on the road, which makes an eventual evacuation of the AP-7 or other blocked roads practically impossible. The device led from Egara, with Sallent at the head, will continue operating this Wednesday, focusing on the Transit Division to minimize the effects on the roads. However, the Brimo and ARRO public order units will remain on alert in case it is necessary to intervene or if incidents occur. In addition, ambulances from the Emergency Medical System (SEM) have been deployed in the cut-off areas.
Persistence of cuts
During this Wednesday, and until the farmers are heard, they assure that the AP-7 and N-2 roads in Alto Empordà, as well as the AP-2 and A-2 in the Ponent area, in Soses and Tàrrega, They will remain blocked.
