A show of complicity throughout the territory
In response to the devastation caused by the recent storm in Valencia, several unions, including CCOO, UGT and USOC, have organized a strike at all the town halls and workplaces in the country. This action seeks to express condolences for those who have lost their lives and express support for those who have been left without their homes.
Moments of reflection in Barcelona
In Plaça de Sant Jaume in Barcelona, a minute of silence brought together prominent figures such as the president of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, and the mayor Jaume Collboni, together with union representatives. The facade of the City Hall displayed a banner with the message ‘Barcelona with Valencia’, symbolizing the union between cities in times of crisis.
Urgent requests for assistance
Before this solemn event, union leaders urged the Spanish Government to speed up the implementation of aid for companies in Valencia. Maria Recueros, Secretary General of USOC, emphasized the need to demand responsibility for the decisions taken and those that have not been taken.
Climate change as a backdrop
The general secretary of CCOO, Javier Pacheco, emphasized that this situation is not an isolated event, but rather a clear manifestation of the consequences of climate change. Pepe Álvarez, from the UGT, asked to improve the coordination between administrations in order to speed up the aid process.
A massive response from society
The solidarity strike was well received, with TMB actively participating in the initiative. At its facilities, workers stopped subway and bus services for two minutes, while the tram took a five-minute break.
A minute of silence in hospitals
At Vall d’Hebron Hospital, healthcare staff joined the stoppage with a minute of silence at the entrance of the center, highlighting the importance of remembering the victims in such a crucial environment.
Commitment of the media
Betevé workers also participated in the tribute, going outside their facilities to remember the victims of the storm. In addition, the Club Natació Atlètic-Barceloneta modified its activities, informing users that scheduled sessions would start with a ten-minute delay.
Reflections on the future
The tragedy experienced in Valencia has served as a reminder of the importance of solidarity and preparation for the effects of climate change. Collective actions like these not only honor the victims, but also foster a sense of community that is essential for recovery and the future.
