A new era for energy in Barcelona

The climate crisis demands an immediate and effective change in the way we manage energy. In response to this urgent need, the Diputació de Barcelona has launched several initiatives to promote an energy model that prioritizes sustainability and the reduction of environmental impact.

Key investments in renewable energy

With the aim of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, the Provincial Council has allocated significant resources to subsidize renewable energy projects, such as the installation of solar panels and biomass systems. The Renewables 2030 and Ecological Transition 2030 programs are key examples of this commitment.

Impact on municipalities

Subsidized projects must meet specific requirements, such as a minimum power of 80 kW for renewable installations and actions that affect more than 300 public lighting points. This strategy seeks to make municipalities more sustainable and efficient.

Success stories in the Anoia region

In Anoia, 17 initiatives have been approved involving a total investment of 6.5 million euros, of which 5.2 million come from the Provincial Council. These actions generate annual economic savings of 0.9 million euros, with an expected payback period of only eight years.

Featured projects

Some examples include photovoltaic installations in various municipal facilities and a biomass boiler at the Antoni Gaudí school in Santa Margarida de Montbui, as well as buildings in Castellolí.

Resultats i perspectives futures

Since the beginning of the projects, the Provincial Council has invested a total of 134.9 million euros in a total of 179 million euros of accumulated expenditure throughout the province. The results are obvious: the reduction of 64,000 tons of greenhouse gases, equivalent to the emissions generated by around 63,000 vehicles, as well as an energy saving of 148 GWh per year.

Access to information

To obtain more details about the specific projects, you can consult the Provincial Council’s portal which collects information by municipality, region and type of initiative.

A commitment to the environment

The Diputació de Barcelona thus reaffirms its commitment to a greener future, where sustainability and the quality of life of citizens become priorities. With these efforts, Catalonia is positioning itself as an example in the fight against climate change and the energy transition.
