Barcelona adjusts mobility in the round of Sant Antoni

by PREMIUM.CAT

Post-inauguration reviews

Following the recent inauguration of the renovated section of the Ronda de Sant Antoni, Barcelona City Council has decided to implement significant changes. The adaptations, which include improvements to signage and parking, seek to optimize traffic in the area. The council explained that the project is still in the construction phase, with work underway on Tamarit Street, and that mobility will not be able to stabilize until the works are completely finished.

Initiatives for better circulation

With the aim of minimising traffic, work is underway to install deterrent signage on Carrer de Floridablanca, which aims to limit the volume of vehicles circulating on Carrer de Villarroel. In addition, new signage will be installed at the junction between Villarroel and Ronda de Sant Antoni, as well as restrictions on entry into Ciutat Vella via Carrer de la Riera Alta.

New parking regime for residents

A notable change is the modification of the loading and unloading parking lot, which will be exclusively for residents from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Previously, the parking lot was accessible to everyone outside of these hours. In addition, new bicycle spaces have been incorporated, which were not available during the inauguration.

Traffic light adjustment study

The City Council is also considering possible adjustments to the traffic lights in this first reformed section, through which several bus lines pass. The current green light cycles are short, and the council wants to ensure that mobility remains fluid.

Perspectives on motorcycle parking

Regarding motorcycle parking, the City Council is exploring options to implement access controls on the second section, between Villarroel and Casanova-Floridablanca, with the intention that only residents can access it. The details of these controls, such as the possibility of installing bollards, which have been used in other areas of the city, have not yet been specified.

Analysis of service configuration

The council has also stated its intention to examine the layout of the service cordon on this section, which includes parking areas for motorcycles. If deemed necessary, some spaces intended for motorcycles, located near Carrer d’Urgell, could be transformed into bicycle spaces, in an effort to promote more sustainable mobility.
